We arrived at Kaiser Santa Rosa bright and early Monday, October 24th around 7am. Angela was scheduled for a c-section at 9am but were warned that we might be bumped in the event that any emergency c-sections arose in labor and delivery. We learned that Cameron was in a frank breach position (head and feet up) several weeks before and had attempted to assist her in flipping so that Angela could attempt a natural birth. We tried yoga, acupuncture, chiropractic methods and even had a manual version performed at Kaiser San Francisco (two doctors try to move the baby from the outside of the abdomen). We eventually discovered we had a stubborn girl on our hands who either wouldn't or couldn't be manipulated. So even though it wasn't how we had imagined her birth, we felt good about the attempts we made to help her flip and accepted the scheduled c-section, knowing we simply wanted her to arrive happy and healthy.
9am came and went and the nurse warned us that it might be a couple hours before we were able to have our turn in the OR. As they warned us, there were a couple other ladies in labor who potentially needed emergency c-sections. By noon, Angela was getting rather hungry and especially thirsty (no food or water since 6pm the night before), so was allowed a cup of apple juice.
By 4pm, we were finally in the O.R.- Cameron was born at 4:04pm on the 24th and was the 4th c-section of the day! It was a long wait but well worth it, both Cameron and mommy were healthy and doing great. The umbilical cord was a bit on the short side but otherwise the doctors saw no other reason for the breach positioning- I guess she just got comfy!
